Morecambe have completed the signing of forward Alex Cherera from non-league side Lower Breck. The club announced the move on Thursday, with the player signing a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Cherera joins after a prolific season with his former club, where he scored 16 league goals in the 2025/26 Northern Premier League Division One West campaign. He will be available for selection once his registration is finalised. The Shrimps, currently 14th in the National League North with 10 points from eight games, are looking to boost their attacking options after scoring 10 goals so far this season.
Cherera arrives as a proven goalscorer from the eighth tier of English football. His 16-goal haul for Lower Breck, who play at the Halo Aerospace Stadium, caught the attention of Morecambe's recruitment team. Manager Adam Lakeland has welcomed the new addition as the club seeks to close a nine-point gap to league leaders Hereford.
Lower Breck secretary Jim Davies expressed pride in the player's development. "Lower Breck FC are delighted to see another player they have helped develop enter the full-time ranks as a professional," Davies told the Morecambe FC website.
The forward will add depth to a squad that has shown mixed form, with a recent sequence of results reading loss, win, win, win, loss. Fans can check the full squad list to see how Cherera slots in alongside existing attacking players. His arrival comes as the team prepares for a busy period in the league fixtures.
With the formalities of the transfer complete, Cherera will now integrate with the squad in training. His first opportunity to feature could come in the festive schedule, with Morecambe's next match an away trip to face 11th-placed Chorley on Saturday, 26 December 2026. The club's current standings show they are aiming to build momentum and climb the table with their new attacking option.
