Morecambe have signed Bermudian teenage goalkeeper Aiden Jones on a scholarship deal for the 2026-27 season. The 16-year-old joins the club's academy setup, becoming the latest young player from the island to move to an English club.
Jones was shortlisted for the Bermuda Football Association's goalkeeper of the year award in 2022 while playing for Somerset Trojans at under-13 level. He announced the move himself on social media this week. "I’m proud to sign my scholarship with Morecambe FC," Jones wrote on Instagram. "New beginnings 26/27."
The Shrimps, who compete in the National League North following relegation last season, have a history of attracting attention beyond the sixth tier. The club's profile has been boosted in recent years by the support of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury. It is understood Fury has expressed interest in purchasing the club after a period of on-field decline.
For Jones, the move represents a significant step in his development. He will now look to progress through Morecambe's youth system, with the club's full squad and upcoming fixtures available for supporters to follow. The academy structure provides a pathway for young talents aiming for first-team football, a journey Jones will now begin in Lancashire.
