A new exhibition of football art by caricaturist and lifelong Morecambe FC fan Peter Blackburn will open at Morecambe Library next week. The month-long show, titled The Peter Blackburn Exhibition, launches on Wednesday, September (2) and will raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research.
Blackburn, also known as Pete, has been a fixture at the Mazuma Stadium for almost thirty years, serving primarily as a match day steward. His collection draws from decades of supporting the Shrimps, featuring illustrations, caricatures, and football-themed artwork that captures his passion for the club. Beyond Radio first reported the news of the exhibition.
Who is Peter Blackburn?
Peter Blackburn is a man of many talents with deep roots in the Morecambe community. For years he was the proprietor of The View cafe on Morecambe Promenade. His creative life extends far beyond the kitchen, however. Blackburn enjoyed a 60-year career in music as a singer, guitarist, comedian, and compere, performing under the stage name Pete Nelson.
During that time he shared stages and crossed paths with a host of famous names, including Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Glen Campbell, Joe Brown, Johnny Cash, Duane Eddy, Jim Bowen, and Marty Wilde. This blend of showbusiness experience and local dedication now finds a new outlet through his visual art.
What will the exhibition feature?
The exhibition will present a wide array of Peter Blackburn's work, all centered on his love for Morecambe FC. Visitors can expect to see illustrations and caricatures developed over his long years following the team. The art offers a personal, often humorous, perspective on supporting the club.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Prostate Cancer Research, adding a charitable dimension to the cultural display. The exhibition provides fans with a unique chance to see the club through the eyes of one of its own, while contributing to a vital cause.
How does this connect to the current season?
The exhibition opens as Morecambe prepares for its next phase of the National League - North campaign. The club currently sits 18th in the table with four points from five games, recording one win, one draw, and three losses. Their recent form reads WLLLD, with four goals scored and six conceded.
They are nine points behind the early leaders, Hebburn Town. The next test is an away trip to face 10th-placed Chorley on Boxing Day, December 26. Fans can track the team's progress and plan for fixtures like this on our fixtures page and view the latest standings.
