Morecambe FC has been placed under an embargo by the National League for the third time this year. The embargo, which came into force on Tuesday, prevents the club from signing new players or changing the terms of existing loans, except where the embargo terms allow. This is the latest in a series of financial struggles for the club, which has been under embargo twice before this year. The Shrimps are one of seven clubs operating under an embargo for 'non-compliance with league financial regulations'. The National League's website states that the embargo can be imposed for one of three reasons: where a club has undergone an insolvency event, where a club has been served with a winding-up petition which has not been satisfied in full or to the satisfaction of the petitioning creditors as evidenced by written agreement, or where a club has either defaulted on such an agreement or has omitted or incorrectly reported its failure to adhere to the terms of any agreement. The club has been approached for comment but is yet to respond. Morecambe and Lunesdale MP Lizzi Collinge has expressed her disappointment at the situation, stating that she will be raising the matter directly with the club when she next meets with them. The club's next fixture is against Chorley on 26 December 2026.
